| JOHN LORD & SONS “TAKE & BAKE” |
|
One of the more exciting stall holders is John Lord & Sons, exhibiting under its new brand ‘Take & Bake’, based in Thorn Avenue, Bradford.
At the age of 62 – when most of his contemporaries are contemplating retirement - butcher John Lord is just embarking on an entirely new venture – posh pies. |
|
The high quality pies, made from local ingredients, have just been given a big thumbs up by the Yorkshire Pork Pie Appreciation Society, which gave them an 'unheard-of' full marks in two categories.
The USP is that the pies are of premium quality and they're not pre-cooked and sitting around on a shelf – they're sold frozen to be cooked at home, or in the restaurant kitchen. Although they can be enjoyed at room temperature, John wants to remind customers of the joys of eating the pies warm from the oven.
John said: 'What we're trying to do is to recreate the old days when people used to queue outside the butcher's shop and eat pork pies fresh from the oven, with the gravy dribbling down their chins.' |
